How To Volunteer

At The Women's Center, you can be a program volunteer, organize a service project or assist with special events. If you would like information on volunteering at The Women's Center, please contact volunteersandspecialevents@womenscenter.info. Or call 817-927-4006.

 

Program Volunteers


VOLUNTEER ORIENTATION

Twice a year, volunteer orientations are held to allow prospective volunteers an opportunity
to learn more about volunteering in one of our programs.  The next orientation is:

Women's Helpline Volunteer
On the Helpline, volunteers provide emotional support, problem solving assistance and referrals to community resources for women in difficult and crisis situations. The Women's Helpline is answered Monday-Friday, 8:30 am to 5:00 pm. A two-part training will be held in September 2008.

 

 

Rape Crisis & Victim Services Volunteer
Volunteers provide peer counseling and emotional support to survivors of sexual assaults and other crimes as well as assistance to the family members. This 24-hour service is provided at area hospitals and on the Rape Crisis & Victim Services Hotline.

A seven-session training is required:
Saturdays: Sept. 13, 20 & 27:  8:30am - 5:00pm and Oct. 4: 9:00am - 12noon
Thursdays: Sept. 18, 25 & Oct 2:
                   5:30pm - 9:00pm


Adult Literacy Tutor
Tutor adults on literacy skills in a small group setting. Volunteers are needed on Wednesday and Thursday evenings between 6:00pm and 9:00pm.
Next training: Sept. 16: 6:00pm - 8:00pm and
                      Sept. 30: 6:00pm - 8:00 pm

Children's Tutor & Activities Volunteer Provide homework help and assist with crafts and activities for children 12 years and younger while their parents are participating in the Adult Literacy program.  Volunteers are needed to Wednesday and Thursday evenings between 6:00pm and 9:00pm. Next training: Sept. 16: 6:00pm - 8:00pm.

Service Projects
  • Sponsor a family for Christmas
  • Wrap Christmas presents
  • Host a drive to collect items from The Women's Center's Wish List: new Teddy bears, journals, panties, Christmas gift wrap, new children's books, puzzles, crayons, coloring or activity books

Special Events

 

  • Victory Over Violence Walk/Run
    April 2009

    Volunteer at the event by helping at a water station, in the refreshment area, at registration, on the course or at the finish line.
